Tamasaburo Bando x Kodo Special Performance “Yugen”

  • Book Ticket

“Yūgen” is a special collaborative work featuring Bandō Tamasaburō (a kabuki actor) and Kodō (a preeminent Japanese drum ensemble). It is not a kabuki program, but it is directed by Tamasaburō who is one of today’s most celebrated kabuki ‘onnagata’ (male actors who play female roles). ‘Yūgen’ will feature an array of classical Japanese images from plays by Zeami, founder of the Nō theatre, incorporating themes from iconic works such as ‘Hagoromo’ (‘The Feather Robe’), ‘Dōjōji’ (‘Dōjōji Temple’), and ‘Shakkyō’ (‘The Stone Bridge’). Kodō is a Japanese drum ensemble. These musicians will provide a dynamic accompaniment for Bandō Tamasaburō, whose mastery of elegant dance is extraordinary. Furthermore, Tamasaburō and Kodō will be joined by special guest artists Hanayagi Jusuke and the Hanayagi-ryū dancers, who will enhance the rich color of this new work.
