This will feature Rōkyoku performer Mayama Hayato, offering a humorous yet insightful introduction to Kabuki. Through his engaging storytelling, he will compare Rōkyoku and Kabuki, highlighting their unique styles and shared traditions. You’ll gain essential knowledge about Kabuki’s key aspects, ensuring a deeper appreciation of this traditional art form. The commentary will also introduce the storyline of the featured dance, ‘Shōfudatsuki Kongen Kusazuri,’ providing a clear understanding of the plot and characters before the performance.

STORY :

A short dance in the oldest style of kabuki, leisurely and full of humor, combining the charm of an onnagata female role specialist with the larger-than-life heroism of the bombastic aragoto style of acting. The strong woman Maizuru stops the powerful, but rash, warrior Soga no Gorō from rushing to a fight by pulling on the set of armor he is carrying.
