"TENNICHIBŌ", which was revised by Kushida Kazuyoshi (direction and stage design) and Kudō Kankurō (script) and very well-received, will at last be performed for the first time in 10 years!
Shibuya Cocoon Kabuki, which was launched by Kushida Kazuyoshi and Nakamura Kanzaburō XVIII in 1994, has staged classical kabuki plays with a novel and much talked about approach to direction, taking on board modern interpretations. This time they present "TENNICHIBŌ", which was performed in 2012 and created a sensation as their 18th production.
The Cocoon Kabuki production in 2012 revived an unknown masterpiece by Kawatake Mokuami, which had not been performed since the end of the Edo Period. It attracted a great deal of public attention and moved audiences with Tennichibō's efforts to pursue his destiny.
Hōsaku (later, Tennichibō) gets the chance to disguise himself as the illegitimate son of the shōgun Yoritomo and heads for Kamakura. He encounters the thief Jirai Tarō and his wife Oroku on his way and learns his unexpected fate....
They aim to take control of the whole country! The youngsters are driven on by their grandiose ambition and pure will. This crucial contest on which they stake their lives begins here.
Enjoy to the full this energetic performance by a unique troupe of actors!
