One of the most distinctive features of kabuki, which is an all-male theater form, is the 'onnagata', a male actor who specializes in female roles. In this performance, Nakamura Kangyoku will present 'The Making of an Onnagata' with Nakamura Umeno, offering a live demonstration of the transformation — an intricate process of makeup and costuming on stage. Following the transformation, Kangyoku will perform the classic Nagauta dance masterpiece 'Fuji Musume' ('The Wisteria Maiden'), a kabuki dance whose expressiveness transcend the language barrier.
