In the March Kabuki Program, the first kabuki performance of 2021 at the Minamiza Theatre, you can see ‘Yoshitsune and the Thousand Cherry Trees,’ one of the three great classics of the kabuki repertoires. It begins with an introduction by a kabuki actor entitled ‘How to appreciate Kabuki’, so this program is especially recommended for those who will be seeing kabuki for the first time. ‘Mt. Yoshino’ is a graceful dance portraying Tadanobu and Shizuka on their journey to Mt. Yoshino, an area which is famous for cherry blossoms. Following this is the famous scene, 'The Mansion of the Priest Kawatsura', which will both astonish you with its quick-changes of costume and showy stage tricks, as well as move you with its display of love between a fox cub and its parents. Enjoy fresh performance by young stars to your heart’s content in spring in Kyoto.
