Minamiza Theatre (at KYOTO) Theatre Information

This month, a special performance by Bandō Tamasaburō will take place, commemorating the 140th anniversary of the birth of Takehisa Yumeji.
The performance begins with a 'Stage Announcement' by Tamasaburō, which is followed by an exquisite Jiuta-mai dance that quietly portrays the fragility of a young woman's life. This will be followed by a screening of 'Yumeji’s Love for Women', depicting half his life with the women he loved, which was performed in 1984 and has been newly filmed. Finally, a dance drama, which combines dance and music from the suite 'Twelve Views of Nagasaki' by Yuize Shin'ichi, will be performed by Tamasaburō and Kohatsu Allen. NAGASAKI JŪNIKEI

['Twelve Views of Nagasaki']

CAST :
Bandō Tamasaburō
Kohatsu Allen
STORY :

This dance drama combines dance and music from the suite 'Twelve Views of Nagasaki' by Yuize Shin'ichi, and is based on a masterpiece by Takehisa Yumeji, a painter who gained popularity in the early 20th century. The first performance of this dance in 1979 was well received. It was praised for its portrayal of women who looked as if they had stepped straight out of a Yumeji painting, and it was performed again in December the following year, with more performances after that. Please enjoy this work, rich with delicate charm, poignant beauty, and a touch of melancholy.
