Cultural Experience Program for International Visitors
‘Kabuki Experience & Seminar’ by a Professional Actor
February & March 2026:Dates Now Confirmed!

We are pleased to announce a special 90-minute interactive seminar featuring a professional kabuki actor. This exclusive program offers a comprehensive journey through the world of kabuki, from an insightful lecture on its history to live demonstrations and hands-on workshops.
Participants will not only deepen their knowledge of this traditional art form but also receive direct guidance from a professional actor. We invite you to join this unique experience to complement your kabuki performance at the Kabukiza Theatre.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to experience “Tsukeuchi” (sound effects) and “Kumadori” (makeup) firsthand.

[Program Highlights]
・Lecture on Kabuki: An overview of the origins, evolution, and unique characteristics of kabuki.
・”Tsukeuchi” Demonstration & Workshop: A live performance by a professional Tsukeuchi (sound effect artist using wooden clappers), followed by a hands-on experience for selected participants.
・”Mie” Workshop: A practical session where participants can learn and perform Mie, the iconic dramatic poses unique to kabuki.
・”Kumadori” Live Makeup: A live demonstration of the traditional kabuki makeup technique, Kumadori, performed right before your eyes.
・Q&A Session: An opportunity to ask questions directly to the performers.
*Please note: Program content is subject to change.

The background of our venue, “Kabukiza-Hall,” features the traditional “Matsubame” (pine tree backdrop).

[Additional Information]
*Important Note: Please note that this is an interactive seminar program and not a traditional kabuki performance.
*Duration: The duration of this program is scheduled to be 90 minutes.
*Cast: The program features one professional kabuki actor and one Tsukeuchi artist.
